Lotus Zen
Temple exists to support all those who wish to
learn how to meditate in the context of Mahayana Zen Buddhism. We also offer plain meditation
instruction for those not affiliated with a Buddhist temple or sangha.
If you have not meditated before at Lotus Zen Temple, please take a few minutes to review zazen, kinhin as well as Zendo Etiquette by going to the Meditation Training tab on this web site. Then, please call (402) 430-4431 for more details about location and schedule.

We come together to meditate, as well as to experience and explore the wisdom of Zen in our everyday lives. We invite you to join us in this practice at our meditation times and temple events. Lotus Zen Temple provides a supportive environment in which centuries-old teachings and traditions complement the creative and caring spirit of contemporary America.

Since ever Lotus Zen Temple had been established, many people have learned to appreciate its aim and mission by participating in various activities. Events at Lotus Zen Temple are open to people of all walks of life. With the exception of some longer retreats (e.g. weekend retreats and longer sesshins), all activities are free of charge. Lotus Zen Temple is entirely dependent on donations and other supporters. As the sangha continues to grow, its people take on shared roles of further building the community.

Membership
Full members commit
themselves to attend more in-depth Zen training, to practice at least once
per week and to support the temple with a monthly pledge according to
their ability. However, anyone is welcome to become a full member
regardless of ability to donate. Associate
members with no regular attendance or weekly commitment may want to
offer a pledge regularly, occasionally or each time they visit the
temple.
In Memory of Yin Hao (Ellen Kamil)
We are deeply saddened upon hearing of Yin Hao’s death at the turn of the new year. We mourn the loss of a highly valued sangha member, dedicated temple board member, friend to so many people in the community and Bodhisattva role model to many sangha members. Ellen joined meditation in summer of 2009, became an avid meditant and received additional Zen training during fall of that year. In February of 2010, she took the Precepts and was given the Dharma name Yin Hao (good-hearted seal). Later on in spring she graciously offered her time and talents by joining the Temple Council (Board of Directors) in the position of treasurer. Her death on New Year's Eve 2010 was a great loss to so many people, including our community. Words cannot adequately express how much she is missed by her family, friends and all of us here at Lotus Zen Temple. A Memorial was held on the first Sunday in the new year of 2011 and her funeral rites were conducted by our Dharma brothers of the Order of Hsu Yun in Olympia, near Seattle, Washington.

We are in a meritocracy: Contribute and you will be rewarded
Your support benefits all and ultimately you. What goes around comes around. Some call it karma, others something else. Science tells us that everything is cause and effect.
Events at LZT are free of charge as to allow anyone to attend in activities and to participate in meditation, regardless of income or social status. However, we need your support, in order to pay monthly expenses and operating costs. No spiritual, religious, non-profit or charitable organization has ever survived without the commitment of its members and participants. Kindly take a moment to review the options available below that fit your budget in support of your local Buddhist temple. Alternatively, you can leave your donation in cash or by check at the temple.
