While still Upasaka in the Zen Buddhist Order of Hsu Yun, Fajian had initially established a meditation group in Seward, Nebraska. Eventually he founded Lotus Zen Temple in the northeastern part of Lincoln, Nebraska. As the temple outreach grew rapidly, LZT was moved to a more central location and a largerfacility in spring of 2009.

Courtney Gibbons Doan (Bell Ringer) Courtney underwent training at LZT and was authorized as Doan in 2010. Courtney also serves on the Temple Council as Treasurer since spring 2011.
Yin Jiàn (Joan Harvey) Upasaka Joan underwent extensive Zen training and was authorized as Doan in 2011. She also hosts a meditation group, meeting at Quan Yin Zendo in her house. Joan also serves on the Temple Council.
