Gatha of Liberation

by Fajian

Truth and reality both are the same.

Truth must be real, otherwise it is not truth.

Reality must be true, otherwise it does not exist.

Belief or faith both are the same. They cannot be proven.

If they can be proven, they cease to be faith or belief.

Faith requires trust, belief does not.

Belief is taking something for reality that is not.

Trust is taking refuge,

becoming one, being one.

Oneness with any great teacher is transcendent, not worship, beyond trust.

It is not making him divine.

No man can ever claim to be supernatural.

All physical beings live within the boundaries of reality,

within cause and effect.

Non-physical beings, deities and ghosts exist only in the mind.

What exists in the mind has no form. Form is for all to see.

The past exists only in the mind.

The future is not here, its perception exists only in the mind.

This moment, what is now, what is here, is where reality and truth reside.

Oneness with all sentient beings, oneness with nature, with the world, with all.

Oneness with the universe is realization, higher consciousness,

is living beyond ego perception and transcending into big mind.

Small Mind no longer disjointed from Big Mind -- all is one.

Compassion arises naturally, no more effort, no more goal and aim.

Enlightenment or liberation arise from connection,

from oneness of mind -- not separation;

from being in the moment -- not the past or future;

fully experiencing the here and now --

without distraction or alienation, without beliefs and ideas.

Words cannot express the experience of liberation.

It cannot be learned, nor found in books, nor grasped with intellect.

Liberation does not know doctrines and perceptions.

Liberation does not need theistic personifications.

Liberation rests in the moment, in the present bliss.

All is here. There is nothing to obtain from elsewhere outside.

Beings are born with Buddha nature.

Beings yearn to free true nature from its cage of conditioning and concepts.

The inner treasure of liberation wants to be set free.

Beings are born to stay free.

Beings are free. Beings are enlightened.

Zen. It's not what you think. It is what you do.
