Throughout history, those searching to resolve life’s most important questions have recognized the need to periodically step out of daily routines and turn their energy towards the vital concerns of their existence. This shorter meditation retreat involves silent meditation periods breathing and posture practice, spiritual (Dharma) talks, meditation related activities, as well as time for personal reflection.
In general, Zen meditation helps the mind to let go of our conditioned concepts, ideologies and ego attachment that often cause so much suffering. Thus, through Zen practice we awaken to the enlightenment nature that has always been innate to us. We discover who we really are.
A Zen retreat like this is for everyone regardless of one's creed or spiritual path.
Outline of the Day
We begin the day at 8:45 AM with a review of Zen meditation techniques and etiquette. A longer meditation period begins at 9 AM -- walking as needed. At 10 AM, there is time for a light breakfast. The Sunday Dharma Service begins at 10:30 AM, followed by potluck. We gather again at 12:30 PM and continue with meditation practice at different intervals, interspersed by Dharma readings and talks until 3 PM. Dokusan is offered throughout the day.
